Writing is on the wall for Alexander

juliusjones.jpg

There were some eyebrows raised when the Seattle Seahawks went after T.J. Duckett in free agency as to what the team was going to do with former MVP Shaun Alexander and/or Maurice Morris, and also as to whether pinpointing the running game was really what the Seahawks needed to focus on.

Now, though, there's little doubt that the Seahawks are looking to go in a very different direction as they went out and signed Julius Jones now as well. The first guess would be that Alexander is going to be either traded or shipped out. His contract is much more expensive than Morris' (naturally), and his production has gone very far south overall in the last two seasons.

There is obvious focus in the draft now to protect these runners. Mock drafts have Seattle picking probably the best offensive lineman available when their pick comes up, and they'll more than likely draft more than one throughout the entire draft. Where will Alexander end up and can he be effective where he goes? This will be one of the more interesting stories in 2008.
