Whoa...Super Bowl avoids Super Shootout

angry man.jpg

Talk about scary. This was reported on SI.com:

"A would-be bar owner angry at being denied a liquor license threatened to shoot people at the Super Bowl and drove to within sight of the stadium with a rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition before changing his mind, federal authorities said. Kurt William Havelock, who ultimately turned himself in, had vowed to "shed the blood of the innocent" in a manifesto mailed Sunday to media outlets, according to court documents. "No one destroys my dream," he wrote."

Wow.

Ok, first of all, if your DREAM is to serve liquor to others....ummm....yeah....alright.

But second of all, to take it to the point where you ALMOST start shooting people over this...ummm...yeah....this guy needs to be placed in the cuckoo's nest. I realize people do some pretty extreme things under extress duress, but---I mean, this is really scary to think that things like this can evoke people to get to the point of mass bloodshed. And it's not like he didn't have any other choice to hit a crowd in Phoenix--he certainly could have visited the FBR PGA Tour event and done the same thing. Regardless, this is one of those "almosts" that could have ranked up there with Columbine in terms of tragedies, and again speaks to the ills our society has undergone where something as trivial as losing your bid for a liquor license drives you to potential mass murder.

I understand that this is not the "entire" story and there are probably more variables involved, but crimes of passion are one thing--this was not so, this was just pure madness. Thank God.
