Who got the better end of the Hall deal?

deangelo-hall-fined.jpg

DeAngelo Hall is a great cornerback. And he's going to get paid for being great--to the tune of 70 million by the Oakland Raiders over seven years. After the dotted line is signed, Hall will be teamed with Nnamdi Asomugha, and will arguably be one of the best corner combinations throughout the NFL. While that will certainly help the Raiders short-term, is this the move they should have made--right now?

I mean, let's face it, they are a team that should be on the rise. With talent on the offensive side and the signing of players like Hall on the defensive side, the Raiders are certainly looking to "just win, baby". But is it a little too early to being this aggressive? I mean, JaMarcus Russell should be pretty darn good--but not this year. He's still got to take his licks after he really didn't get extensive reps last year, and the Raiders did make a decent move in getting Javon Walker, but he is still risky as a number 1 receiver.

The Atlanta Falcons, on the other hand, know what stage they are in--total rebuild mode. With new ownership, trading Hall and getting draft picks which mean that they will have 4 of the top 48 picks make this a very good long-term move and depending on they get, could mean huge things for the future of the franchise. Hall is good, don't get me wrong, but they lost him and may gain something better in return.
