That has to be what Arthur Blank is thinking about now, don't you think? I can't help but harken back to a Falcons fan's commentary immediately following the announcement of the Matt Schaub trade to Houston for two draft picks.
"I'm happy with the Schaub trade. I was afraid that the Falcons brass would be too conservative and play it safe by keeping Schaub asThe Falcons never made a run for Adrian Peterson, and if new rumors prove to be true, the Atlanta Falcons are now seriously contemplating an outright 'release' of Michael Vick. Imagine that. This just makes you realize how little the league and Falcons brass knew of Vick's off-field life and lifestyle. The Falcons never would've traded Schauby to Houston if they had so much as a sniff of trouble from Vick. Michael Vick completely blind-sided everyone and in the process may have single-handedly knocked the entire Falcons franchise into a tailspin that will take years to recover from.injurydogfighting insurance, as opposed to getting maximum value out of him via trade. I was wrong. And it's hard to remember the last time it felt so good to be wrong. Why I'm so excited is simply because of the potential of what the two additional draft picks allow for us. We can now package either one of our two second round picks this year, plus the extra one for next year and move up further at the top of the draft. Possibly as high as the second or third pick overall....
Instead, I'm excited because I believe the Falcons might be making a push for Adrian Peterson, whom I assume will be a Top 5 draft pick this year." - falcfans blog
Meanwhile, whether you believe Schaub is a quality NFL starter or not, doesn't this just seem like the kind of break the Houston Texans sorely needed? At least the Falcons can claim genuine ignorance with Vick, but the Texans knew beyond a shadow of doubt that their starting running back at the time Domanick Davis (now Williams) was damaged goods when they passed on Reggie Bush. If Schaub goes on to thrive in Houston and the Falcons release Vick, it will be the proverbial salt on an already gaping and raw wound for the city of Atlanta. It also may simultaneously change the fortunes of a Texans franchise that has seemingly been tripping over its own feet since it came into the league in 2002.
