Week 5 Wonders and Worries

Well, we're already about a fourth of the season through. While there are some players who have set in nicely, there are still the week-to-week matchups that pose a little bit of head scratching along the way as a fantasy league manager. Here's some notables that I think you may want to consider for week 5.

Jason Campbell--Campbell is just starting to come into his own as the Skins' QB. He's coming off a Bye, where he has had a an extra week to prepare for this week's game. Truth be told, he probably didn't need it, as he is taking on the horrible Detroit defense that ranks 30th against the pass.

Frank Gore--While he is still a good back, he struggled last week versus a mediocre San Fran defense. This week he faces Baltimore and their suffocating defense--and he has to worry about having 400-year old Trent Dilfer taking snaps. Think the Ravens will put eight or nine in the box? Ok, that may be pushing it, but look for Gore to struggle mightily nonetheless.

Marvin Harrison--He hasn't practiced all week, the Tampa Bay secondary is pretty good, and the Colts have several options to go to besides him. All of these factors equal an off week for Marvelous Marvin, so if you have him, I'd sit him this week.

Kellen Winslow--Boy, I seem to be picking on the stars this week. But with good measure--Winslow faces a tough linebacking and secondary team in the Patriots, and he will more than likely be facing up against Mr. HGH himself, Rodney Harrison. The Browns will have to throw often in the second half, but he won't get a sniff of the end zone.

Philip Rivers--My, how the mighty have fallen. What a simple change at coaching can do to a team--Norv Turner's pathetic excuse for play calling has gotten him in trouble in Washington, Oakland, and now San Diego. Rivers goes up against a Denver secondary that was able to hold Mr. All-World Peyton Manning to under 200 yards (albeit it was because Joseph Addai and Co. were running wild on them). Still, you can't overlook it, and with Rivers struggling, he'll not only be under the Mendoza line, but he'll have a few picks along the way.

Brandon Marshall--While on the other side of the ball, this upstart WR has been doing a lot for the Broncos. Jay Cutler seems to throw to him more often than not, and with a San Diego secondary that looks pretty clueless thus far, he should eclipse the century mark and maybe a score.

T-t-t-t-t-that's all, folks!!
