Utecht bolts Colts

B_Utecht_IA.jpg Ben Utecht played three good years for the Indianapolis Colts. He was always one of the guys that could be counted on as a solid receiver in the Colts two-tight end sets as well as a good backup for Dallas Clark. However, when the Colts went out and signed Clark to a six-year deal paying him gobs of money, it was apparent that the team would definitely be placing Utecht in that backup role indefinitely.

As a free agent this year, Utecht then tested the free agent market and found a suitor that will pay him a bit more--the Cincinnati Bengals. The three-year contract was not matched by the Colts by the deadline, and therefore the Bengals now have wrapped him up.

The thing is--you would think that Utecht would be going to a team that he would be able to start for and be able to utilize him more. But that's not necessarily the case--while he will have a better chance to play more, the Bengals have Reggie Kelly, another good tight end, so was the move really worth the money? Stay tuned.
