Trial by fire: How much work will Russell get versus Colts?

Yes, the Oakland Raiders are starting Josh McCown. However, the likelihood that the Colts will probably continue clicking on all offensive cylinders and be up big by half is pretty good. Enter Jamarcus Russell. I would be willing to bet that he'll get some work--at least a quarter--for the Raiders.

But is this wise? I mean, the Colts have the most improved defense in the league, and their secondary is maybe--no pun intended--second to the Patriots. With Russell thrust in to this type of atmosphere, unless the Colts are playing the practice squad players, Russell will be learning the hard way about life as a QB in the NFL.

Perhaps if he wouldn't have been so damn greedy and held out for an eternity he wouldn't be faced with this situation--but, alas, hindsight is 20-20. He may be getting more scratch, but the only scratches he'll feel tomorrow are the Colts lineman up and down his back--and not in a good way. I realize that this time of year is to gear up for next season, so don't base Russell's performance tomorrow as a future prediction of his talent--give him a full offseason and training camp, and he'll start to show flashes of brilliance. The sad thing is he could have been doing that by this time now had he just been a team player all along.
