The Buzz: Maroney Ripe for the Picking?

The New England Patriots are uber-scary. I mean, seriously--I am a Colts fan and I am literally shaking in my boots (cue crowd ooooooooh). With Randy Moss now on the receiving end, Pats fans really have no place to blame for any shortcomings, as for years they basically had a roughshod patchwork of receivers that Tom Brady had to throw dink-dink passes to all game. Now, Moss makes them even better---even without the video cameras.

But what about the running game? Brady has been lighting it up and looks like he's at the top of his game, while RB Laurence Maroney has yet to really sniff success. What does this mean? Well, let's not forget that the AFC East isn't exactly bruiser central, so it gives the offense that the Pats have revolved around to really exploit every game. For Maroney's owners right now, they've got to be frustrated, maybe even ready to pull the trigger.

My opinion? If you are looking for a good second-tier back and have a top 15 RB on your squad already, make the deal. Maroney is too good to be at the level he has played for the first two games, and with the next six games, the Pats should be handing off more and more to him, despite reports that they have gone all Mike Shanahan and are trying to be secretive about their intents--they are paying way too much cash to Maroney to be mysterious. So, continue to talk him down, grab him, and then continue to ride the wave of the Pats offense. It will be worth it, trust me.
