Super Upset: GIANTS WIN

emanningsb.jpg

No one really wanted to say it, but everyone had it on their mind. The Patriots on paper were a shoo-in. They had all of the credentials of one of the greatest teams ever and were facing a team who really, in most people's eyes, had no business being in the Super Bowl. But still--because of the fact that the Giants were able to upset every one they had faced on the road, the unthinkable of the Patriots being beat was certainly in the back of many people's thoughts.

And now, it is reality.

Riding a tremendous effort from all angles, the Giants defense blitzed Tom Brady and kept the running game in check, eluding a great performance by Wes Welker, and Eli Manning and company were able to come alive in the second half to beat the Patriots 17-14. Earlier in the week, Plaxico Burress came out and said that the Giants would win 21-17. Not too bad prognosticating, Plaxico.

It was an all-around effort that was truly a team win. While I feel for the Patriots in their quest to be the first team ever to go 19-0 and the first undefeated team in 36 years, I must applaud the Giants for not backing down, playing the underdog role to fullest, and making this very much like the football version of David vs. Goliath.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2007-08 NFL Champions: The New York Giants.
