Super Bowl XLII: New York Giants Keys to Winning

giants-helmet.jpg

Dorothy, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

While this team hails from the most hustling and bustling of all cities in the US, nothing could have prepared the New York Giants for what the week has brought in terms of the Super Bowl. Media day was nothing more than a circus, and all of the questions and prodding that has been brought to this team that wasn't even supposed to make it past the first round more than likely has their head spinning.

But what now? Oh yeah, the game. Eli Manning has still a lot to prove to everyone even in New York, so for him to take apart the aggressive Patriot defense, he has to be making ultra-quick decisions and be able to dump quick slants to Plaxico Burress as well as Brandon Jacobs out of the backfield. The running game MUST be solid and get at least 100-120 yards in the game if the Giants are to be successful--it is a must when you consider that if Manning has to pass alot, Rodney Harrison could end up the game's MVP.

On defense, it is all about containment: containing Randy Moss, containing Tom Brady, and really coming at the both of them to challenge them physically. The Giants have been accused of dirty playing, and I am sorry, but if they have done it in the past, they are going to have to do just the same and maybe more to overcome the talented Patriots' line. Likewise, they cannot let Laurence Maroney perform as effective as he has done in the playoffs. If he has any kind of game, it's good night, boys.

The team is underdogs now by 12 points, and while the line has moved down, it is still a great thing that they are getting more respect. They have nothing to lose, and with that attitude, it makes them that much more dangerous.
