Super Bowl Hangover: How do the Pats respond?

bradysideline.jpg

It was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history--maybe even more than the epic Super Bowl III when Joe Namath guaranteed victory. The Patriots were standing tall and looking to be the best ever, and it came down in a hurry. After you consider that Tom Brady set the TD passing record, Randy Moss set the TD catching record, what else does this mean for the team going forward?

If it were an emotional coach much like Jon Gruden, Norv Turner, or even Mike Shanahan, it would be a tough call because the team reacts according to a coach's disappointment, his sadness, et al. But you have to consider Bill Belichick as well as the history of this team. The Patriots have been there and won three super bowls with many of the same players--and Belichick as their coach. They've also known heartache, losing a tough AFC championship last year to the Colts. But this is indeed a different year--they were on the cusp of being the "one".

But Belichick is a master of the game, a student that never quits studying everything, even when his team is winning. It was not his fault the team lost the Super Bowl--it really wasn't--and the thing of it is that Moss is still just hitting his stride, and Brady is as good as ever. If the Patriots go out and maybe shore up some defensive line issues or even a better running back in the process, they may eclipse this season's expectations. But even if they don't--this team is as good as any now and maybe still one of the best--they will be back---count on it.
