Should Favre pack it in?

favre2.jpg

Get it? PACK it in? HA! I crack myself up.

Anyways....So now after the Packers debilitating loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship, much like Indianapolis Colts fans turned to the news of the moment with Tony Dungy's stance on coaching the team, the Green Bay faithful are once again waiting in exasperated anticipation of whether Brett Favre will return to the team.

He's said he's going to retire and then come back more times than Sugar Ray Leonard did. But this is under a much different pretense; all of those other times, the Pack was not coming off a loss in the NFC Championship. So...what now?

My feeling is that Favre should go out on top. I know he's not a champion per se, but this guy has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the best QBs of all time. He buried back a couple of disappointing seasons this year by returning to the "old Brett" that was jovial, productive, and brought big wins to the little Wisconsin haven. So now--even though he is not leaving with the Lombardi Trophy--now is the time for you to retire, Mr. Favre. Sure, your team may have a chance to go to the big one again next year, but is that a sure thing? Nope. Is it a sure thing that you are going to be as productive again? Nope. Is there a chance that you could mar your reputation? Yes. Is there a chance you could have a crushing injury that could scar you for life? Yes.

Brett, you've been absolutely amazing to watch, but I think for your dignity and for the memory that should live on in everyone's minds, it's time to go.
