Shaun Alexander: Home Is Where The Heart Is

shaun_alexanderShaun Alexander: Home Is Where The Heart Is

This is shaping up to be quite a year for Seahawks fans. Optimism is running higher than ever, and many are picking Seattle to make a strong challenge for a Super Bowl appearance this season.

Armed with an emerging star quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck and an unheralded but talent-loaded supporting cast led by Pro-Bowl runner Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks appear poised to go deep into the playoffs for the first time since 1983. However, both Hasselbeck and Alexander are entering their final year under their current contracts and both players figure to be in line for king-sized deals.

While Mike Holmgren deserves much credit for pieceing together this team, it is the family atmosphere and cohesiveness that he has fostered between management and players that figures to be his greatest hallmark that could pay large dividends heading into the most critical contract negotiations this organization has faced in years.

I look at all the great players the Seahawks have lost," Alexander said. "They didn't care if they stayed or went. I really do want to be here, if we can find a way to do it. It'll work out. I have great faith in the Seahawks." - The Seattle Times
And the Seahawks have great faith in Alexander. 3-straight 1000-yard seasons, 44 touchdowns over that span, and his first Pro-Bowl, are all milestones that exhibit a runner hitting his prime. For the Seahawks to take the next step, they will have to prove they can win on the road with regularity and that is the biggest achilles heal this team must vanquish having gone 6-11 at home over the last 2 years. Alexander's legs figure to be a big component to solving the road game puzzle. If they can win on the road, and then win in the boardroom by locking up Alexander and Hasselbeck, this franchise could be an offensive juggernaut for years to come.
"I love Seattle, and I think Seattle loves me back," Alexander said. "Seattle is home. For me, I just go out there and score touchdowns and help the team win." - The Seattle Times
