Pittsburgh to keep grass

heinz_field_WIDE.jpg

No, no, the Steelers haven't busted a player for marijuana and are keeping it as evidence. I'm talking about the playing surface at Heinz Field. Rated as one of the worst fields ever since its inception after the Steelers moved from Three RIvers Stadium, which played on a concrete-like astroturf, Heinz has always been a grass field.

However, despite the low ratings and some of the player grumblings, they SWEAR that it reduces injuries, so it will be staying. Therefore, be ready for some more yicky and yucky games come November and December in Steeltown, but I guess less players on the IR? I don't know if you can ultimately prove that it is--some of the better astroturf nowadays has a grass feel and is nowhere near the severe hardness of yesteryear.

(By the way, you can tell it's the offseason already, can't you? Yikes. Going to be a long time until training camp...)
