Petrino deserved better

Sure, Bobby Petrino probably made the decision on his own to leave the Atlanta Falcons and go to the college ranks of Arkansas. But was the motivation really to get back to college? To me, he really deserved better in Atlanta. Having only been the head coach for 13 games, he now will actually be coaching his third team within one year (technically, he was with Louisville at the beginning of the year, went to the Falcons, and now with the Hogs).

But this year has been nothing short of a nightmare, and Petrino can't be blamed. Michael Vick sent this franchise back a decade with his legal issues, and the signing of Joey Harrington didn't pan out, nor did Byron Leftwich. Warrick Dunn has been the consistent performer they needed, but overall, this team let Petrino down.

While he had the responsibility of keeping the team afloat, he didn't have much to deal with--it was clear this year was basically a throwaway for the Falcons, but at least guys like Cam Cameron are sticking it out in even worse situations, so I would have liked to see Petrino give it at least one more year after given some opportunities during the offseason to rebuild the team. Maybe management had given him the indication that wasn't going to happen--regardless, Petrino deserved better.
