Packers move on

Yeah, yeah, every sports site has something on Brett Favre. The man, the myth, the legend. He has like all of these records and he's retired. We get it. Not to disrespect him--I apologize if it comes off that way. I have watched Favre ever since he donned a Green Bay Packer uniform, and he's certainly one of the best of all time. I am not denying the impact he had on the game of football whatsoever. What I am questioning is the Brett bloat I already feel as the media has basically put his mug up every chance they get--this just in--Brett Favre is STILL retired....geesh, guys...

It's time for the Green Bay Packers to move on, and they are moving on in the form of Aaron Rodgers. The third-year man from Cal inherits a team that has a lot of confidence and has regained some swagger with their offense and especially their running game. But what will be able to do as a full-time QB? While some think that he has the tools and maturity already to pull a Derek Anderson, I'm not so sure he's not going to pull a Ryan Leaf either. The fact that he's got some pretty cagey veterans at receiver is a blessing and a curse at the same time; let's face it, Brett certainly did wonders for those guys careers as much as they did for his.

Rodgers should provide a decent backfill for the Packers, but don't expect for him to suddenly lead the team to the playoffs. Ryan Grant should be very concerned that teams aren't going to stack seven in a box. This also probably changes the Packers draft strategy considerably and more than likely their free agency search. (Hey, I think Byron Leftwich is still available).
