One Arm Equals Two Feet

michael_vickOne Arm Equals Two Feet

When Mora Jr. was hired to head coach the Falcons it was clear that the West Coast Offense was coming with him. Anybody with a working knowledge of the system knows that the key to it's success lies with the quarterback's ability to be efficient with the football. While few will argue Vick is anything less than the most talented athlete in the NFL, there does appear to be legitimate debate as to whether he can stay healthy and temper his desire to run. One thing is certain however, Vick and those who coach him certainly are aware of what needs to change in Vick's game:

I want my completion percentage to be over 60 percent," he said. "I don't want to be running all day and taking the punishment I was taking in the past, because it was wear and tear, and we saw what happened last year in the preseason." - Michael Vick - Charlotte Observer
For fantasy owners Michael Vick represents the ultimate boom/bust pick. If you want him, you'll have no choice but to burn a high-round pick to get him and those who did so last year can attest to the risk in doing so. The Vick quagmire is a tough one to solve but it appears fantasy owners everywhere have decided that they can't lay off his tremendous upside. Vick is being drafted on average 3rd or 4th at the QB position behind only Culpepper, Manning and/or McNabb. That's lofty draft currency considering the value and upside of those typically being taken later ie, Hasselbeck, McNair, Green, Brooks and Bulger. While Vick may not single-handedly win fantasy championships for anyone, he certainly could lose it for many. Sure, injuries can happen to any player. But no quarterback in the NFL puts himself in more potentially injurious circumstances than Michael Vick. Those who choose to take the Vick plunge are a brave lot stuck on an island. If Vick injures again, you can be sure, their will be little place to turn to for much solace. That's what you get for drafting on the edge. That's what you get for playing on the edge. Unless of course, Mora Jr. gets his way.
