NFL says no to reseeding

goodellspeaking.jpg

NFL Owners continued to scrutinize the rules and regulations of the league to "better" things overall in Florida today, and there were some minor facelifts that accompanied these reviews. The biggest proposal on the ballot was reseeding. Not the kind of reseeding that I need for my barren backyard that I seem to ignore every time I walk outside (I'm good at that), but the kind of reseeding where teams are put in order based on W-L record, and not necessarily the format of division winners getting home field automatically.

The motion was denied overwhelmingly, as it was "historical" that the division winners get a home record.... And your point is? It was also historical when they used to have the goal post in the front of the end zone, or that QBs wore facemasks with just the single bar, and that helmets used to be made of leather. Are you kidding me?

First of all, that's tunnel vision. Not every division is balanced the same, and that means that since you play your division teams twice throughout the year, that gives more of an imbalance in terms of an overall win-loss record. Take, for example, the NFC Central. This, for years, has been kind of the ugly part of the NFL in terms of W-L record. Yet, are you telling me that if the Chicago Bears win the division with a 9-7 record that the Philadelphia Eagles, who finish 11-5 but don't win their division have to go to Chicago? That makes zero sense. I understand there's honor in winning a division, but that's like winning the NIT...you're still number 66 in the country.
