NFL Draft Preview: Tennessee Titans

Ahh, finally the end of the AFC. What? I still have the NFC to go? Dang! Well, I don't think I'll be able to get all of the way through the NFC, but I will try my hardest :) So, let's talk about Titan football. For one, this team had a pretty weird year overall, as Vince Young struggled than what he did the year before, yet the team was able to make the playoffs, despite losing in the first round to the San Diego Chargers.

After that game, management has all but said that they are going to focus on building the team's offense. Since they didn't make any blockbuster moves over the free agent offseason, the assumption is that they will then use that focus in the draft. At a minimum, the team needs to get a true #1 receiver. For a team that has only drafted a receiver in the first round 2 times in 48 years, I'd say their due (ya think?). Justin Gage and Mike Williams are decent, but are not even close to gamebreakers. Give Vince something! The only other areas they may want to focus is on the defensive line, with the need for depth, as the line is starting to look a little haggard overall.

With the 24th pick in the draft, the Titans don't have a plethora of options, but they have been in close contact with Limas Sweed and Mario Manningham. My bet is they go with the speedy and sizeable Sweed from Texas, whose draft stock has plummeted a bit after a wrist injury, but if he's good to go, he could be one of the steals of the draft. If they go with Manningham, they'll certainly get talent, but Sweed has more upside, in my opinion.
