NFL Draft Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh_Steelers_helmet.gif The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a team of a lot of hopes after Big Ben Roethlisberger had a phenomenal rookie year, but with those hopes have brought a lot of disappointment, as every year they just seem to fizzle. There's been some major players coming and going from this team for those years, so it's important to have a good draft for those hopes to begin to be realized--for Steelers fans, sooner than later. The boys from Steeltown need some help on their offensive line, and quick. The Steelers made a bone-headed move in not keeping arguably the best guard in the league in Alan Faneca, and with that size of a hole missing, the Steelers need to get somebody young and tough in there to be shown the ropes. They may want to also think about a tackle, because the reality is that after slapping the franchise tag on Max Starks this year, he'll probably be suiting up elsewhere next year. Big Ben has also been public about asking for a receiver, so that should be a later round priority (not just because Roethlisberger asked for one--they do need some help!) The Steelers draft 23rd in the first round, and they will more than likely take the best offensive lineman that is around at the time, which could be Gosder Cherilus--but don't rule out that Ben's word may carry more weight in the wideout position, so Limas Sweed, a very talented receiver from Texas, may also be a possibility.
