NFL Draft Preview: Philadelphia Eagles

phillyeagles.gif

The Philadelphia Eagles have been more of an enigma than anything over the last couple of years. If there's any team that has been more frustrating in terms of potential versus results, it's this team, which I am sure is an understatement to fans. After playing a roller coaster season and finishing 8-8, the Eagles again were faced with a bittersweet taste in their mouths and question marks abound. Getting Asante Samuel in the offseason was a coup, but there are still many things the Eagles can improve.

Donovan McNabb has all but screamed that he needs a big play receiver, and while Kevin Curtis had a better season than anticipated and Reggie Brown was decent, neither can be considered legitimate #1 receivers. Likewise, the Eagles need some big time help on the offensive line as a whole. This team gave up way too many sacks (49) and definitely needs to be overhauled.

With the 19th pick, the Eagles aren't exactly in a peachy position, much because although the offensive linemen in the draft are pretty deep, most of the high-quality guys will be gone by the time they are on the clock. If this is the case, I really believe that the Eagles will take Limas Sweed, who doesn't necessarily have the speed to be a #1 WR, but he certainly has the size. Other options could be grabbing another corner, but to me that would be a waste of a pick.
