NFL Draft Preview: New York Jets

NYJ_936.gif

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. Here's a team that basically has undergone several personnel changes over the years and really do not have a whole heckuvalot to show for it. From running backs to quarterbacks to coaching, the New York Jets have been decent, but nothing to really write home about overall. Still, there is some hope with the emergence of Kellen Clemens and a wee bit of pressure now that their rivals, the Giants, are Super Bowl winners.

So, whattyaneed? Where don't ya need? No, just kidding. The Jets actually need a lot of assistance in their secondary, specifically the corner and safety positions. Both don't have any depth and while Darrelle Revis and Kerry Rhodes are very good at their jobs, there's really nothing else to talk about. On the wide receiver side, Laveranues Coles has been a thorn in the side of management and so they probably need to start building towards the future of the franchise.

The thing is, in all of the mocks that I have seen thus far, not a single person that they need for these positions has been listed in the first round, in which the Jets have the sixth pick. There's reports of the Jets possibly trading up to get Darren McFadden, coveting Jake Long, and the latest has them probably taking Chris Long. None of these people are in the positions they need, even though Leodis McKelvin may be just what they should shooting for--but I guess it's all about getting the hyped "for sure" players and hopefully be able to get some free agents, etc. Hey, it's not my team.
