NFL Draft Preview: New England Patriots

patslogo1.jpg

There's only one number that the New England Patriots care about: 1. That's how many losses they had last year--and it was in the biggest of the biggest--the Super Bowl. They clearly had their sights set on re-signing Randy Moss as a free agent, and they did that. They also made sure to keep their team as intact as possible, but not all things were great in the offseason--and thus we turn to the draft.

As far as needs go, the Patriots have got to go after a cornerback. Randall Gay left for more money, and Asante Samuel bolted as well. Eugene Wilson didn't wait any longer and took off--which left Ellis Hobbs as the lone corner. It is an absolute that they get someone in the draft at this position. At Linebacker, they are getting a little old, and you can't always count on Tedy Bruschi's nine lives.

You would think a team that only lost one game would mean they would be drafting late--but not so fast, my friend! The Pats have the seventh pick! They may actually trade down and possibly get a decent, established corner or linebacker, but if they don't, I would like to think they'll go after the best CB in the draft, Leodis McKelvin from Troy. I just don't see them go any other way.
