NFL Draft Preview: Minnesota Vikings

minnviklogo.jpg

Geesh, if I only would have written this a couple of days ago it may have been of interest to people, but more than likely, it really isn't a huge issue now. Why? Well, in the last couple of days, the Vikings went from a team that probably desperately needed to draft a defensive end to getting that filled by an all-pro (Jared Allen), giving up their 17th pick, and now not picking until 47th. My, how things can change at a moment's notice, eh?

Not that the Vikings are 100% in the clear, but this really does help the team quite a bit. Allen comes from the Chiefs and should really help bolster a defense in need of a leader. Other needs would be at OT, where they are a Bryant McKinnie injury away from disaster there. At Safety, Minnesota could really utilize more depth as well; even though they got Darren Sharper, he's no spring chicken, so getting a young buck in there should definitely be in the plans.

While it's kind of hard to really think about who may be available deeeeeeep into the draft at 47, perhaps a decent pick would be Oniel Cousins from UTEP or Dajuan Morgan from NC State. These players are at OT and safety, respectively, and certainly are not bad personnel to pick up in the second round at all. If Duane Brown or Tyrell Johnson slip, you can bet they'll be taking them.
