NFL Draft Preview: Houston Texans

texanslogo.jpg

The Houston Texans are kind of like the Tampa Bay Devil Rays of football: they've been around for a while, had some decent players that they've picked up throughout the years, but never seem to make any real noise in any sense of the word of putting fear into anyone. For what seems like forever there has been different needs that the Texans have had that they just don't seem to address very seriously, and I am sure it is really starting to wear on football-crazy fans.

The same ideology carries over to this year---can we GET an offensive tackle--for once?? Seriously, this isn't funny anymore. As much as their QBs seem to get beat up, you'd think this would have been taken care of a long time ago--you'd think. In terms of other needs, the team absolutely has to shore up its safety positions as well as OLB spots, as the depth there as well as the overall talent must be upgraded for the team to survive in the offense-oriented AFC South.

Unfortunately, the Texans don't have a pick until the 18th pick of the draft, but they have absolutely, without a doubt MUST get an OT. It would be sooooooooo cool if they could trade up to get Jake Long, but they won't--mostly because the offensive linemen and especially at OT--is deep this year in the draft. More than likely Chris Williams from Vanderbilt will be around, and if not, perhaps Gosder Cherilus from BC. I like both of them, but if they really wanted to make a statement, they'd trade up in the draft to get a bigger stud.
