NFL Draft Preview: Baltimore Ravens

Well, I guess I should start posting about the draft, eh? Sorry folks! Lost my head!

Anyways, I am going to go through the AFC first in alphabetical order. First, we are going to talk about the Baltimore Ravens. So, let's get to it. The first need for the Ravens has got to be at quite possibly the most important position in the game--the quarterback position. The fact that the NFL draft should be used as an investment and not something that you should expect that they give you immediate dividends. That being said, Steve McNair is still very effective, but he is definitely in the twilight of his career. Kyle Boller is not an NFL quarterback--the fact that he has stuck around the way he has is a mystery--he just does not have the tools to be a starter and is painful to watch in any aspect.

Strangely, the Ravens also need help on defense, which is something that has, for the most part, been the strong point of the team for what seems like forever. The defensive line is really good on paper, but their depth is very much in question. The secondary is a little suspect already in terms of age, and the Ravens are paper thin at several positions there as well.

So, who will the Ravens be more than likely going after in Round 1? Well, they have the number 8 pick, and if Matt Ryan is available, the Ravens will snatch him up--he is by far the best QB in the draft, but the thought is that the Dolphins may go after him or even the Falcons--both have needs at QB as well. But, if he's not available, the best defensive back available should be their pick--someone like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Leodis McKelvin. In the second round, if they get Ryan, they'll definitely get a defensive back here--and if they don't get the BC slinger, they will probably go after the next best QB, who may be Brian Brohm from Louisville.
