What NBC's anchor desk is going to look like this season.
I was taking a look at NFL.com this morning, looking to see if there was any major news to write about, when I came across this headline.
Olbermann to join NBC pregame show
The first thing that came across my mind was, "What?" Followed closely by, "How many anchors do they have on this show?" Well the answer to that, kids, is six, and that's not including the fact that Al Michaels and John Madden also appear on the show to talk about the Sunday Night Game. I thought LAST year's set was a bit crowded with five, but now we have six? This show is still only an hour right?
I think the best part is that the article says that Olbermann will co-host the show with Cris Collinsworth, and they will be joined by Bob Costas, and analysts Tiki Barber, Jerome Bettis, and Peter King. Since when did Bob Costas get relegated to "also mentioned" status? Isn't this NBC's lead host for pretty much everything? They list CRIS COLLINSWORTH as the co-host but not Bob Costas? Maybe he pissed somebody off over at NBC, I don't know.
As far as what Olbermann is going to be doing on the show....
His job on the NBC show will be to narrate highlights and discuss NFL news and issues.
Um, so what exactly is Costas going to do now? Wasn't he the guy who narrated highlights? Don't get me wrong, I like Keith Olbermann as long as he's not going to bring politics into football (I care enough about politics to stay informed and vote, but I don't want it in my football coverage, no matter what side of the fence you're on), but I just don't understand why they needed ANOTHER host on this show when you already have your "best guy" out there. Just doesn't make much sense to me. I fully expect some people to be shouting over others and this group to be broken up next season. Just too many people.
Oh, and I'm not going to miss Sterling Sharpe. Your jokes last season were NOT FUNNY so stop laughing at them all the time!
