Mora to start leading Seahawks in 2009

p1_mora2.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks knew that they would only have one year with Mike Holmgren as their coach. With so many different great prospects out there and the fact that having an extensive interview search can lots of times hamper several things, including the draft, free agency, and the like. So--the Seahawks decided to skip that route and go ahead and hire now.

Jim Mora Jr. is currently the team's secondary/assistant head coach. However, Team president Tim Ruskell said Wednesday that Mora will get a new, five-year contract, including four years as head coach. So that's that.

Great move by Seattle. With them already having a strong team lead by Holmgren, the transition should be pretty transparent, and this sould mean being able to retain free agents going forward who had no idea who'd they be playing for. Mora has a great legacy in following his father, who actually is more famous for his "PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?" Press conference than his coaching record--but trust me, he was a good coach. Obviously Mora Jr. will bring more of a defensive philosophy to the team with his current emphasis, but don't underestimate this young buck--he will continue to keep the Seahawks strong.
