Monday Morning Quarterback: Wild Card Weekend Review

qb1.jpgWell, we're down to eight teams for the Lombardi Trophy. Let's recap the events and the future implications:

Seattle 35 Washington 14: In a game that was largely misleading with the final score, Seattle's defense pulled through in the fourth quarter after Matt Hasselbeck and company were pretty sluggish most of the game. The Seahawks now face the rejuvenated Brett Favre in the frozen tundra. With Favre, the worst thing you could do is give him rest, and the raucous Green Bay crowd will certainly push the Packers. The Seahawks have got to play better overall than they did against the 'Skins if they want to advance to the NFC Championship.

Jacksonville 31, Steelers 29: Many had picked the Jags to be the only team on the road to pull an upset, and they did just that. The running game for Jacksonville is just amazingly solid, and if there was a team that they wanted to face, it is the Patriots. Going into Foxboro won't be easy, but this team is on a great hot streak and they could do it if they can execute the way they did in Pitt.

New York 24, Tampa Bay 14: The vast majority of NFL fans were super-surprised by this game. The Giants rode the arm of Eli Manning, who exhibited his true leadership for the first time--well, ever. A great effort by the Giants defense thwarted a great season by the Bucs. They now face the nemesis Dallas Cowboys in Texas Stadium, and Manning will have to keep Auntie Mo' on his side if they want to upset the 'Boys.

San Diego 17, Tennessee 6: In a game that I would have honestly thought would have hit the over, these two teams played very tight almost the entire game, and the San Diego offense had better push it up several gears to get past a very good Indy defense. If Vince Young was completely healthy, you may have seen a very different AFC final four.
