Mike Martz: Lost His Mind?

Mike Martz: Lost His Mind?

mike_martz_funnySomething is rotten in Missouri. The Rams have lost 4 of their last 5 games. Their quarterback is over-exposed. Their defense is a sieve. Yet, the recipe for navigating this team back to success is one that Mike Martz has refused to subscribe to. He has stood steadfast behind former pro-bowler Marshall Faulk and the need to reserve a significant role for him in the offense. But the undeniable truth is that Steven Jackson and his lofty 5.1 yards per carry, and his youthful power and speed gives today's Rams the best chance to win games. Maybe that's not how Martz drew it up before the season started, but sometimes you have to be flexible in your thinking especially in the wake of overwhelmingly negative results. This offense is screaming for a 20-25 carry workhorse to control the clock, keep their horrid defense off the field and give Bulger a real threat in the backfield. If Mike Martz has anything of substance left in that cranium of his, the tipping point has arrived for Steven Jackson. Unfortunately, for Rams fans that's a very big 'IF'.

When Martz concluded that it was time for Marc Bulger to replace Warner at quarterback, he didn't hesitate to make the move. So there's no reason for Martz to be timid in this case. And there shouldn't be a double standard.

It's Jackson's time.- St. Louis Dispatch

UPDATE: December 3rd
Just because Martz is a Footblog reader doesn't mean we had anything to do with this. But...
First-round pick Steven Jackson almost certainly will start in his (Faulk's) place on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, and coach Mike Martz said Thursday that Jackson probably should have played more the last two games.

"He's going to carry the load this week," Martz said. "We've got to give Marshall a chance to recover." - CBS Sportsline

If Steven Jackson is as good as we think he is, Faulk may not start another game for the Rams, healthy or not.

Please note: the funny little edit on the photo is exactly that; meant to be funny not offend. Please don't take this out of context. Just poking some fun at Martzy, that's all.
