Martz Eager To Return, Rams Give Cold Shoulder

Guess what folks? Mike Martz is feeling a whole lot better, and now this ants-in-his-pants hard-worker wants to return to his day job.

"This is the best I've felt," Martz told St. Louis TV station KMOV. "And when you feel this good, you feel like you should be working." - Mike Martz

But if you've been following this story at all, it should come as no surprise that good health won't ensure a Martz return to the team any time soon.

...Shaw said there's no decision regarding Martz' future with the team amid widespread speculation that he won't be back. Next season is the final year of his contract, and Shaw said lame-duck status was only one of the variables to consider. "Would he change his staff, would he be able to hire new coaches in the last year of his contract?" Shaw said. "When you start weighing them, you start formulating in your head what type of commitment you need to make and which direction you want to take."

Sure they could fire Jay Zygmunt who is the biggest front-office thorn in Martz's side but that means by default, the team has to make a pretty big future commitment to keep Martz installed as head coach because why fire a front-office guy just to make a coach in the final year of his contract happy? It's become pretty clear those two can't co-exist, so expect the team to let Martz go and they'll let a new head coach bring in his own stick of dynamite to place in the current Rams front-office.
