Keys to winning the NFC Championship: Green Bay Packers

ryangrant.jpg

If there was a football version of the movie "Enchanted", it would have to be the Green Bay Packers. Left for dead, Brett Favre had been waivering on whether to retire or come back once again. Packer fans are sure glad he did, as a rejuvenated Favre brought the team back to the golden days of offense and they staked their claim as one of the best in the NFC.

Now that they have homefield advantage for the NFC Championship, they've got to use it for just that--the advantage. There's no place like Green Bay for football much less during the cold winter months, and last week's snowfest proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that these guys can certainly play well under the more dire of conditions.

In order to beat the Giants, they must keep them off-balance. Green Bay won't likely be able to throw all the time, so Ryan Grant's effectiveness in keeping the secondary honest is critical. Meanwhile, Favre has to be mobile and able to throw on the run, as I have a feeling that the Giants, with nothing to lose, will blitz every chance they get. The defense has to be able to rattle Eli Manning's cage, getting to him early to deflate the confidence he's gained over the past two games. They also must key in on the efficient running game of the Giants, and basically not let the Giants catch them sleeping.

If Favre can continue his great season and Grant can keep the Giants guessing, my bet is that the Packers walk away with this one. If Favre struggles though or the Giants continue to put points on the board, it could be another fairy tale team making the Super Bowl, and it would be in Royal Blue with a big NY on the helmet...
