Jets add Richardson to bolster running attack

trichardson.jpg

The fullback position, like that of the offensive line, is one of the most grueling positions in the NFL. It is one of the most important to the running game, and yet is one of the most unsung places in the "glory" department. But the New York Jets didn't think so--as they went after three-time pro bowler Tony Richardson to help their running game.

Richardson has blocked for some great backs very successfully--including Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, and Adrian Peterson. The Jets definitely need some help offensively, and with Thomas Jones as their lead running back, any help is definitely welcomed. However, I am wondering why the Jets decided to go after the running game instead of the passing game so early?

While the Jets were not a too-proud 19th in running yards, their passing was even worse, with a ranking of 26th, and total offense and points near there as well. Certainly Richardson will help in many aspects of the game, but they certainly need to upgrade some other areas like receiver and really working on improving Kellen Clemons' arm and accuracy in the offseason--and finally get rid of Chad Pennington's contract.
