Jacobs to be out 3-5 weeks

As if losing to the Cowboys wasn't bad enough, the New York Giants received word that Brandon Jacobs, the heir apparent to Tiki Barber's throne, has a sprained MCL and will be out 3-5 weeks. While many would assume that Reuben Droughns will be the replacement, Derrick Ward took the bulk of the carries after Jacobs left the game, so it's kind of hard to see which you should get on the waiver wire--if any.

Even though Eli Manning had a good game overall, he's banged up too with a bruised shoulder. Things couldn't have started off any worse for the Giants! However, Ward may be the "diamond in the rough" that many seek as waiver wire draws--and since he had almost 100 yards rushing and also a TD in his fill-in duties, he may be the guy to grab right now and ride out Jacobs' injury overall.

When asked about Ward it was noted that "He played very well," Tom Coughlin said. "He certainly made his presence felt." While Droughns is obviously the highest paid of the two, the Giants may feel they have to get some bang for their buck, but for now, assume that Ward will get the start week 2 against the Packers.
