Infirmary Report: Week 2 - A Sprain In The Ass

first_aidInfirmary Report: Week 2 - A Sprain In The Ass

Stud players are getting injured with a higher frequency so far this season than I have seen in recent memory. I swear I don't say this every year. I swear. Just a brief rundown of the key injuries from Week 2;

Deuce McAllister, RB - New Orleans Saints:
Deuce McAllister left Sunday's game early with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

The Prognosis:
X-rays revealed a pretty severe ankle sprain. The good news is that it's not broken. The bad news is that it will still require about 4-6 weeks of healing time. The earliest possible return for McAllister is November 1st.

Priest Holmes, RB - Kansas City Chiefs:
Fantasy owners everywhere got quite a fright when word spread quickly that Holmes had to leave the Chiefs game due to injury. It wasn't his hip, that's the best news.

The Prognosis:
Fortunately it is looking like a fairly minor tweak/sprain to his ankle. He'll likely miss some practice time this week and could possibly miss their next game. But it isn't looking like anything long-term at this point.

He has a slightly sprained ankle. I just talked to the doctor 10 minutes ago. There's nothing serious and he felt better tonight than he did this morning. They had him on crutches but he walked out of the doctor's office. He's lucky he didn't hurt the knee because he did get bent over backwards. It was scary looking on video tape. - KCChiefs.com

Edgerrin James, RB - Indianapolis Colts:
Edgerrin James scampered for a 30-yard TD run in the Colts road victory against the Titans but came up hurting after the score.

The Prognosis:
MRI results revealed a partial tear of the hamstring. James may be available for this weekends game, however it is possible he sits out one week. The biggest thing to watch for here is the nagging nature of hamstring injuries.

He thinks he's fine but the MRI shows some damage in there," said Colts coach Tony Dungy. "If he had to go today, I would say he's doubtful. - KCChiefs.com

Todd Heap, TE - Baltimore Ravens:
Just before halftime on Sunday a Steelers lineman rolled up on Heap's ankle. He was not able to return to the game.

The Prognosis:
Heap is immobilized with an ankle sprain (definitely the motif of the week). He will be out 2-4 weeks.

It was a scary way to go down, but it was definitely a relief to find out it was an ankle sprain and just a little bit of ligament damage." - Washington Post

Kellen Winslow, TE - Cleveland Browns:
Here's a good reason to keep your star players away from special teams duties. Winslow appeared to suffer a serious leg injury while defending against an onside kickoff in Sunday's tussle with the Cowboys.

The Prognosis:
A broken leg. Likely out 2 months. A crushing blow to a Browns offense that has already struggled even with Winslow's star power and talent.

The Browns said Monday that the promising tight end has a broken fibula, an injury that could keep him on the sidelines for six to eight weeks. - CBC
