Hair Beautiful Hair

polamalu.jpg

Remember when Troy Polamalu intercepted a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs and then the Pittsburgh Steeler was tackled by Larry Johnson--by him pulling on the back of his long hair coming out from his helmet? How about when former Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was tackled by grabbing ahold of his puffed-out dreadlocks--twice--in a game?

Well, those all may be wisftul memories if the NFL has any say. Actually, it was KC that made a motion to basically outlaw long hair in the NFL--meaning that players could have long hair, but that it needs to be tucked away under their helmet during games. While this doesn't affect an inordinate amount of players, it does mean that at least people are taking this long-locked crisis seriously at last.

Perhaps next the NBA will make sure once and for all that all shorts are not past the knee cap once and for all, and maybe tennis players will be required to wear head bands for their hair as well as the women have mandatory skirt lengths (let's hope not). The fact that this is an issue is a joke--there are so many more things the NFL could be concentrating on then hair it's just almost ludicrous to think this is an issue. If Polamalu gets hurt or has pain because of someone tugging on his splint ends, that's his fault, and the owners are wasting time even discussing this. How about making sure that their players are taken care of? Planning for next season maybe? Hmmm...there's an idea.
