Giant Storm Watch In Effect

thunder_lightningGiant Storm Watch In Effect

Ron Dayne? How could we be talking about Ron Dayne? Isn't he flipping burgers by now? Close. And had Jim Fassel been retained as head coach of the Giants for another season Dayne may truly have seen his last days in New York and perhaps the NFL entirely. Tom Coughlin's arrival couldn't have been a more welcomed site for Dayne who has clearly recognized this as a fresh start and perhaps his last opportunity to make good on a career that has been a train wreck since winning the Heisman Trophy in 1999.

One guy to watch out for is running back Ron Dayne, who is in the best shape of his life. Coughlin loves to pound the ball, so it will be interesting to see how he uses Dayne. - Gil Brandt
And there is little doubt that Coughlin will be looking for someone to step up and support incumbent starter Tiki Barber. Despite Barber's versatility and career 4.5-yard rushing average, his 35 fumbles over the least 4 seasons authenticates the argument for a reduction in his workload. Barber agrees;
And Barber is also hopeful that Ron Dayne's effort to stay in shape signals a return of the "Thunder and Lightning" one-two punch. "It will take some pressure off of me, and he could give us a different dynamic at running back," Barber said. "He didn't have a real productive relationship with (former coach Jim Fassel), so it was a blessing for him and a fresh start. This is his last chance and I know he wants to stay with the Giants." - Star-Ledger
Could Dayne finally churn out a productive season? Right now it seems quite plausible. But don't say you heard that from me. I'll lie and deny it.
