Getting to Know the 2007 NFL Schedule: Week Two

Yawning.jpg

What I feel like when I look at week two's slate of games. The cat's cute though right? Trying to lure those non-traditional readers. Mission Accomplished.

I've looked at the schedule the NFL has come up with for week two of the 2007 season and I must say it's pretty much a dog. Only a couple of compelling matchups on the schedule mixed with A LOT of games that won't draw a ton of interest from the casual fan. I'll try to feign some excitement for you though.

GAMES TO WATCH

Sunday, 9/16

FALCONS at JAGUARS, 1 PM

No Thursday game this week so you're going to have to resort to watching some Big East or WAC college football clash of the titans over on ESPN to get you fix. As for the Sunday games this matchup features two teams who have expectations every year to do something with the talent they have and then comically fall short. Michael Vick has yet another coach who thinks he can turn the enigma into the freak QB everyone thought he was going to be after his second season (anybody else wondering who got the better of the Vick - Tomlinson deal? Didn't think so) but will it actually happen? This game should go a long way in seeing if he can be the real deal or not. The Jags have plenty of ability to make Vick nervous as they have a very nice pass rush and a secondary to back it up. Perhaps the Jags will even decide to play a few good games in a row this season. Wouldn't hurt.

PACKERS at GIANTS, 1 PM

If only because the Over/Under on the total interceptions thrown between Eli Manning and Brett Favre may be 10.

COLTS at TITANS, 1 PM

Don't know if you noticed last year but the Titans played the Colts TOUGH. They almost won the first game in Indy and they won in Tennessee. This year they have a more matured Vince Young, while the Super Bowl Champs (can't believe I'm saying that) have done nothing in the offseason save for letting other teams pick at their carcass by taking good players away left and right. If the Titans are serious about making a run towards the playoffs this season, this could be the place to make a statement.

COWBOYS at DOLPHINS, 4 PM

EX-CHARGER ASSISTANTS GO HEAD TO HEAD IN A BATTLE ROYALE! WOOOO!!! Wait, that's not exciting? My bad....

CHIEFS at BEARS, 4 PM

This is a game tailor made for Rex Grossman to just go off and have a great week because the Chiefs still don't know how to defend the forward pass. Add that to the intrigue of seeing Larry Johnson take on the Bears defense and you have a game that could be interesting.

CHARGERS at PATRIOTS, 8 PM

The Sunday night game is another good one and I'm sure Al Michaels will think he's funny and clever by calling this "The Disrespect Bowl" after LT and the rest of the Chargers were pretty ticked off after the Patriots had the audacity to do Shawne Merriman's stupid "Light's Out" dance after they beat the Chargers in the playoffs. Nevermind the fact that Merriman does that stupid dance after any and all good plays he's involved in (no matter the score) and that in itself is some disrespectful taunting; the Pats are just arrogant pricks. I would say that the Chargers would probably win this one because Marty is gone and he cost them the game last year, but having Norv Turner walking the sidelines doesn't exactly instill me with confidence.

AVERT YOUR GAZE!

Even Rocky would tell you to skip this one.

Monday, 9/17

REDSKINS at EAGLES, 8:30 PM

While there are certainly worse games on the schedule (Oakland at Denver, Minnesota at Detroit) this one sticks out because it's on Monday night which means we as fans have no other options if we want to watch football. Is anyone (outside of the northeast) even vaguely interested in seeing this game? The Redskins were a playoff team two years ago, but their management is so inept that they are on another backward slide, and the Eagles are, well the Eagles, not really that interesting of a team from a personality standpoint, or a football standpoint. This game has the potential to be a blow out which makes things worse because then I'll have to listen to Kornheiser make stupid jokes and go off topic. Terrific.

Well that's it for week two. Check back tomorrow where hopefully the NFL scheduled some good matchups for week three.....
