DO WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER NFC EAST GAME IN PRIMETIME?!?!
Let's go back to looking at the upcoming 2007 NFL schedule with a look at week four. This is the first week that teams will have a bye, so there are fewer games on the slate, and that might be a good thing because the matchups aren't the best.
GAMES TO WATCH
Sunday, 9/30
TEXANS at FALCONS, 1 PM
In a HORRIBLE slate of early games, this one is probably the best, and that's only because of the QB matchup. Matt Schaub will get his shot at his former team, AND he gets to do it in Atlanta. This game could actually be pretty interesting depending on the Falcons record and how well Michael Vick is doing. If the Falcons come in at 1-2 or 0-3 (and with the schedule they have, they very well could) and Vick is playing terrible, while Schaub is playing well for the Texans, than you could see the Atlanta fans turn on Vick. I would say I'm somewhat rooting for Vick to get booed, but he may sick his brother Marcus on me, so I'll just keep my mouth shut.
BUCCANEERS at PANTHERS, 4 PM
Chris Simms can finally exact his swift revenge on the Panthers for taking out his spleen. FEAR THE WRATH OF CHRIS SIMMS*
*not valid if Jeff Garica has already taken his job
BRONCOS at COLTS, 4 PM
I fully expect the Colts to thrash the Broncos (like the always do, because apparently Tony Dungy has Mike Shanahan's number), but it should at least be entertaining while they do it. It's funny how all the Broncos moves seem to be aimed at stopping the Colts (trading for Dre Bly this season and Champ Bailey a few seasons ago) and they aren't even in the same division. Perhaps the Broncos should focus on stopping the run since they should probably worry about the Chargers more than the Colts. Oh well, who am I to question Shanahan's genius. How many playoff games has he won without John Elway again?
CHIEFS at CHARGERS, 4 PM
The two best running backs in the league go head to head. Enjoy this now because with the amount of carries Herm Edwards is forcing on Larry Johnson he may be broken down soon.
Monday, 10/1
PATRIOTS at BENGALS, 8:30 PM
This is easily the best matchup of the week, and by FAR the best Monday Night game so far this season. You have Tom Brady and the Patriots going up against Carson Palmer and whatever Bengals aren't in jail. Plus it's Monday Night so I'm sure Chad Johnson (my favorite NFL receiver) will have something interesting cooked up. Should be a fun game to watch.
NFC EAST RANT / PLEASE DON'T WATCH THIS GAME

"I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take this anymore!"
Sunday, 9/30
EAGLES at GIANTS, 8 PM
Okay. Enough is enough. I know I touched on this a bit last time, but it needs to be looked into a little more. ANOTHER NFC EAST MATCHUP IN PRIMETIME?!?! Was this some sort of Ultra Division last year that I missed? Take a look at the standings from last season
Eagles 10-6
Cowboys 9-7
Giants 8-8
Redskins 5-11
Does this look like a division that deserves to have FIVE head to head matchups in primetime this season? Also you want to know how many weeks DON'T feature at least one NFC East team in a nationally televised game? THREE (Weeks 7,10,11). The Redskins, who as you can see were terrible last year, are on national TV four times this season. The Chargers, who were the best team in the NFL last season and features one of the reigning MVP, are on only three times. The Giants barely made the playoffs last season and lost their best player (Tiki Barber) and they are on national TV five times, which happens to be the same number as the Colts and the Patriots.
Oh and before you give me the "well they had three playoff teams" argument, let me end that right there. They only had three playoff teams because they pumped up each other's records by playing each other. It's easy to make the playoffs when half of your games are against other mediocre teams. Half of the Eagles 10 wins came from beating up on NFC East opponents, and the same can be said of the Giants. The Cowboys only won two games in their division, but their other seven wins came against ONE team with a winning record (Colts).
I think what needs to be done is we need to just tune out to these head to head NFC East matchups. Maybe sagging ratings will force the networks to put some other teams in the primetime games. The Redskins even getting ONE national TV game is a joke. I realize they are a historic team and they have a big fan base, but come on.
Well there's your look at week four. Week five coming tomorrow....
