Frerrote returning to Minnesota

332662.jpg

The Vikings didn't have a lot of options to get a backup quarterback they wanted. I mean, they were really wanting to get Sage Rosenfels...yeah, I know, seriously??? He's decent, but even the Houston Texans weren't willing to part with the quarterback with the weird sounding name because their once-backup QB Matt Schaub's health is in question. So, where do they turn? Back to an old familiar face--Gus Frerotte.

Frerotte, who has played for 14 years and had played for Minnesota in 2003-04, hasn't had a ton of reps over the past couple of years, but he at least proved that he still was able to do the job in a pinch with the Rams, even though he threw 7 TDs to 12 INTs--I'm sorry, but you really can't put that on him totally--and now he'll get a chance to backup Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota.

Jackson, who really still does have a lot to do in terms of improving and get to the level that he should be playing at as a professional, will really be able to use Frerotte as a great mentor, and Frerotte is not the type of guy who is going to pout if he doesn't get playing time--he is really one of those just happy to help. It may have not been the Vikes' first choice, but they will gain dividends with this minor investment.
