Forgive me Father: Will Priest take the carries now?

Larry Johnson has had to be the biggest disappointment of the season. He came into this year with gaudy numbers from 2006 and was looking to build upon those statistics. But then Trent Green got traded and suddenly LJ became very human-like, disappointingly not only reaching the status of what he had done before, but being barely a RB2 that was productive. So when he went down with an injury, the collective sigh you heard amongst fantasy owners was probably more of them being put out of their misery rather than sadness.

Johnson left Sunday's game with what was initially called a sprained ankle, but has since been diagnosed as a mid-foot sprain. Coach Herm Edwards has noted that LJ will be undergoing and MRI and that they are still seeing exactly what the deal is short and long-term. It's very possible that Johnson will be sidelined for multiple games and could be at less than full strength even if he returns in time for the fantasy playoffs.

So let's party like it's....2003? Can the Chiefs use Priest Holmes as their every-down back? Not likely. Edwards indicated Monday that rookie Kolby Smith will also see plenty of action despite zero carries through eight games. Even 10-15 carries and third-down work would make Holmes a RB2 option in Week 10 thanks to a great matchup against the Broncos' matador defense. Ole!
