Fickle New York will hate Eli if he loses, love him if he wins

I understand that with every sports team, you need to have expectations for your players. I understand that if they can't cut it, then you as a fan, whether you are a statistics hound or a casual watcher, should have the ability to form a strong opinion about the player. However, there are certain lines that should not be crossed, and in the parallel universe of New York, there is no in between for any sports figure there.

Either you are loved or you are hated.

Look at Isiah Thomas. The man has run the Knicks in the ground, and he is absolutely abhorred in the Big Apple. Look at Phil Simms. He won two Super Bowls for the Giants and is as revered as any Yankees' baseball player that brought titles to NYC. Speaking of the Yankees, could there be any more dramatic and fickle fans out there?

Yep. Giants fans.

If Eli Manning wins the Super Bowl and upsets the hated New England Patriots, he will be a poster boy in New York...well, at least until next season. If he loses, be prepared for a lot of tomatoes to be thrown at ya, boy. Of course, don't take into consideration that he already has lead the team farther than even the wildest predictions went to--it doesn't matter. You're here, now win.

That kind of pressure is due to no one. It's been that kind of media hounding and fans booing until they can't see straight that has run the likes of Randy Johnson and others out of New York. While fans will boast that this is how things should be, there is a difference between being a fan and being a schmuck. Reality needs to set in on the bulk of the population that holds such disdain for people that can't reach the mountaintop...it's no wonder the central thesis behind Ghostbusters 2 was the New Yorkers sour attitudes that caused all of the "pink slime".

So, while I respect Manning for doing what he's already done, I am sure right now it's falling on deaf ears in any borough in the largest city in the country.

Win. Or else. Nice way to live, ain't it? *Rolls eyes*
