ESPN 2K5: Better than Madden 2005?

espn_2k5ESPN 2K5: Better than Madden 2005?

For years the Madden gaming franchise has enjoyed virtual monopoly status as the best and only football simulation worthy of your time. Well hold on to your joysticks folks because for the first time in recent memory there is serious competition and you might be surprised as to which one has been receiving the most accolades and positive feedback. The E3 Gaming Expo is like the Super Bowl for video games and one of the most widely read online gaming review publications has just named ESPN 2K5 as the Best Sports Game for this year. Take a look at what gaming experts are saying about ESPN 2K5;

From visuals to presentation to gameplay, it's shaping up to be one of the best sports games of all time. Yeah, it's really that good. - IGN.com

ESPN NFL 2005 showed us the most in terms of depth and presentation, and it proved to be just as fun as its most recent predecessors, if not more so. If that's not enough reason to call it the clear-cut winner, then nothing is. - Gamespot

Will ESPN 2K5 outsell Madden this year? Not likely. But that certainly doesn't mean it isn't the better game. And the Sega/ESPN alliance have taken the gloves off this year in a marketshare slugfest with their archrivals at EA Sports. The first shot came when the ESPN team announced that the game would sell for a shockingly low $19.99 retail price.
Come July 21st, football fans can party like it's $19.99 - Game Daily
More than half the suggested retail price of Madden 2005. Then days later, they announced that ESPN 2K5 would hit store shelves on July 21st, trumping Madden's release by 3 weeks. Name recognition and years of branding is enough to likely keep Madden as the leading seller for at least another season. But be forewarned, there is a new game in town and it's arguably better, definitely cheaper, and will be here in just 8 days. For the record, this will be the 2nd consecutive year I pass on Madden in favor of ESPN. In my opinion, it really is better.
