Eagles really reshaping team in free agency

PhiladelphiaEagles_100.gif

For all of the complaints that the Philadelphia Eagles' front office has had to endure as far as player personnel moves, the mob should be quited as the team has made several moves in the offseason thus far. (Well, they'll at least be quieted until the first play of the season, that is). Perhaps the biggest coup was going out and getting Asante Samuel, who was arguably one of the most valuable players in the free agent pool (I don't count Randy Moss, as his re-signing by the Patriots was pretty much guaranteed). Samuel fills a huge need for the Eagles and he brings swagger and winning resume to a defense that really needs a leader in the secondary.

Some say that the franchise move of L.J. Smith was a bit unfair, but I think it was brilliant--this is a much sought after skill position at tight end and Smith is definitely a good, solid prospect to continue to blossom in Philly. They also actually improved themselves, more than likely, by actually getting rid of players--Jevon Kearse and Takeo Spikes, who are way past their prime overall, and while it puts pressure on a young corp of linebackers, these guys are good enough to step up quickly.

Donovan McNabb's roller coaster season ended on a decently strong note, but the Eagles ABSOLUTELY must go out and get a good receiver to help him out. Ever since Terrell Owens bailed, the Eagles have not had a legitimate #1 receiver, so either they need to make some big trades or trade up in the draft to get a very strong rookie. Either way, this team will have a different face next year, and it should be definitely for the positive.
