Delhomme's injury more damaging to Smith owners

Jake Delhomme said Monday that he's yet to make a throw since suffering an elbow injury on September 23, adding that he's "hoping" to do so this week. It sounds like Delhomme will try to avoid surgery for now, but he's clearly not close to returning yet. "It feels good," Delhomme said. "And I'm anxious whenever I do start chucking it around a little bit to see. We're going to play it by ear."

Delhomme said that decision rests with trhe team's trainer. Coach John Fox reiterated Delhomme's status is day-to-day. Asked if there was any chance he could play Sunday at New Orleans, Delhomme smiled.

While so many Delhomme owners have been cutting bait since he went down, and David Carr has been a hot pick on the waiver wire, the people that are really at wits' end are Steve Smith owners. While Carr is adequate, it is well known that Delhomme loves to throw to Smith, and they certainly can't drop him--but it does really pose a start vs. bench issue, because he is so good but yet in such an awkward position.
