Deion Sanders: Prime Timing

baltimore_ravensDeion Sanders: Prime Timing

We all know the global population is aging. But nobody could've imagined this trend permeating the ranks of professional football the way it has this season. Football, and most pro sports in general typically covet and worship youth. And yet, it is a solid corps of old-timers that are making plays and making themselves indispensable assets to their teams. Curtis Martin, Corey Dillon, Priest Holmes, Vinny Testaverde, Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders and Emmitt Smith are all on the wrong side of 30 but still proving they have the right stuff. Deion's 'Prime Time' act is so 1989, but try to explain that to the Buffalo Bills who were victimized by the 37-year old to the tune of 2 interceptions including one returned for a touchdown in his trademarked high-step fashion.

"It felt good. It really did," he said. "At breakfast this morning I told the guys, 'When I get into the end zone stand back and let me dance first. Then you can congratulate me."

Sanders not only gave the Ravens the lead, but helped preserve it. With Baltimore up 17-6, he intercepted a pass in the end zone with 12:26 remaining, further justifying the Ravens' decision to take a chance on the aging defensive back.

"For those that didn't think it was a good move," coach Brian Billick said, "then maybe they can rethink that." - ESPN

For the record, his teammates forgot to let him dance first before congratulating him. He pushed them all away, did his dance, then hugged his teammates. Some things never change. In Deion's case, nothing has, and that's just fine with the Ravens.
