Daunte Culpepper Wants to Suck For Your Team

25046876.jpg

"Wait, we DON'T have Randy Moss? Who's supposed to catch my overthrown balls?"

In case you haven't read the Miami Dolphins have had quite enough of the suck show that is Daunte Culpepper and have banned him from their practice facility. Daunte, taking a page from Steve McNair's playbook, has filed a grievance with the NFLPA to basically force the Dolphins hand in getting rid of him. The trick to this whole thing is that Daunte doesn't want to be traded, he wants to be released. Um, that's not the way it works dude. You signed a contract and if the team wants to trade you then that is their prerogative. I for one am getting a bit sick of these players whining and complaining about wanting to pick where they go and not get traded. Well here's an idea for you. GET A NO TRADE CLAUSE IN YOUR CONTRACT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE TRADED!! Crazy idea I know, and it may cost you a couple of contract years, but at least you won't have to suffer the "indignity" of getting traded.

Now that that's out of the way let's look at what Daunte has to offer whatever team is stupid enough to pick him up off the trash heap. Last year Nick Saban, in his infinite wisdom, decided that Drew Brees was "too risky" and decided to trade for Daunte instead. Good call there. Daunte promptly sucked up the few games he played in before slinking off to the bench for the rest of the year with more knee problems. Most have attributed his injuries to his overall horrible play, but am I the only one that remembers that he was having a terrible season BEFORE he got hurt his last year in Minnesota? Take a look at his numbers before he got hurt with the Vikings....

7 Games (Vikings went 1-6)

6 TD Passes

12 INTs

72.2 QB Rating

Now mind you that was 26 points below his worst EVER QB rating, and that came in his first full season playing (he barely played his rookie year). It's funny...he gets injured in the seventh game and all of a sudden people forgot that he looked terrible without Randy Moss to bail him out. The thing with Culpepper is that he benefitted greatly from being able to just throw the ball high and deep and know that Moss would come down with it. Once he stopped playing with a receiver like that, his touchdown numbers went down and his interceptions went up. He's just not the same, and that was evident BEFORE he got injured. Now that his knee is pretty much shot he's lost his mobility so now he's pretty much another Drew Bledsoe, a statue in the backfield who throws a bunch of stupid interceptions, what team wants that?

I'm sure that once Daunte gets his release there will be a few teams that line up for his services (Oakland seems like a good place to start, but he seems like a guy who would bitch and moan if the team was lousy so I don't know if the Raiders want that kind of guy around, especially having just dealt with Aaron Brooks for a season), but I don't see him getting back to the level of play he displayed during his earlier years in Minnesota. Just please don't let him go to Detroit. We Lion fans have enough problems with Shaun Rogers getting busted in a strip club a la PacMan Jones. Ugh....
