Da Bears reduced to Da Cubs

Chicago has a long-standing tradition of the Chicago Cubs being known as the lovable losers of baseball. We're talking 100 years in 2008 since they've won the World Series. So when other Chicago teams rise up to the brink of greatness, the town goes crazy! Last year when the Bears made an improbable march to the Super Bowl to face the Indianapolis Colts, it was mayhem and many were star-struck by the ideas that "Da Bears" were in the big game.

But, alas, the team has been reduced to the same status of the Cubs--losers. After getting beat by the Redskins, the team is 5-8 and has all but conceded their season is basically garbage. It hasn't helped that Rex Grossman has been more ineffective than last year and has had his share once again of injuries, it hasn't helped that the defense is a shell of what it was last year, but still--to be already bowing out after you make the Super Bowl?

Dang.

What this can be chalked up to, in my eyes, was that last year was a total fluke. Chicago took advantage of a good schedule and rode Auntie Mo' to the Super Bowl. But this year--reality set in. Be prepared for some more long winters in the Windy City.
