Cutler shreds Marshall in interview

t1-cutler.jpg

Jay Cutler has had enough of Brandon Marshall's behavior. The breakout star of the Denver Broncos, Marshall has had a Pacman Jones-like experience off the field, with a DUI charge pending from last October, and a freak accident that cut an artery, a vein, a nerve, two tendons and three muscles in his right arm. He will miss almost the entire training camp, more than likely.

Cutler basically spouted off in an interview how Marshall should be more careful and basically take responsibility as a player and now a leader for the team. With Javon Walker leaving for Oakland, Marshall, who already had a great 2007 season, is being looked to jump into the highest tier of wide receivers, the kind normally reserved for guys named Owens, Moss, Johnson, and Harrison. But Cutler is worried that the continued actions that Marshall does off the field will not only cause him problems on the field overall, but it may end his career with the Broncos as well.

I understand Cutler's concern--I mean, let's face it, he will be the guy that Cutler will have to throw to a lot, and his absence just makes things harder, but is it really his place to basically shred him in the public eye? We've seen the collateral damage that can happen when two players start to sling mud, and it never ends up good--so I don't understand why he feels that he is the person who can and should say something--this is better said by the coaching staff or even Broncos' ownership, not a guy who should be helping him, or at least criticizing him in public. Sure, Marshall hasn't been overly smart, but how does this help?
