Coles gets guarantee from Jets

t1_coles.jpg

Laveranues Coles has been pretty outspoken this offseason about the New York Jets moves in that they have been giving plenty of money to those outside of the core team but haven't been concentrating on interior players--namely himself. He had been asking for a contract extension, but the Jets instead have opted to give him a guarantee of his 11 million dollars over the next two years.

Coles caught 55 passes last year after catching 91 in 2006. The Jets finished 4-12.

Umm....Mr. Coles? Do you NOT see why the Jets would be spending money on outside talent? The inside talent won 4 WHOLE GAMES and you only caught 55 passes? Why in the world would you expect them to suddenly be given a contract extension? Seriously...No, you're serious?

Good grief. It's one thing to stick up for your fellow teammates, it's another just to be plain ignorant.

Understanding that the Jets were a playoff team a year ago, I guess it could be said that Coles has a point--in a twisted way. But not offering a contract extension and merely guaranteeing money tells me that the Jets aren't exactly still sold on him, either.
